All About SBI Mutual Fund

SBI Mutual Fund is an asset management company run by the State Bank of India. The SBI Mutual Fund Trustee Company Private Limited was set up as a trust under the Trust Act of 1882.

SBI Mutual Fund is a joint venture between Amundi and the State Bank of India.  Amundi is a famous French asset management company created jointly by Crédit Agricole and Société Générale. It is the largest asset manager in Europe, which makes this venture profitable.   

SBI Mutual Fund was established in 1987 with its headquarters in Mumbai. The fund house has always been revolutionary in its approach. It has launched many new types of funds since the beginning.

It is the first in India to launch an ESG Fund. ESG stands for Environment, Social and Governance fund. It aims to provides resources for sustainable investment in major markets. 

SBI funds management has been managing India’s dedicated offshore funds since 1988. It was the first AMC to come up with ‘SBI Resurgent Asian nation Opportunities Fund. It was also the first one to launch a ‘Contra’ fund, called the SBI Contra Fund. 

SBI Mutual Fund has become India’s largest fund house. This is according to quarterly average AUM data released by AMFI for January to March 2020.

1. Mr. R Srinivasan

R Srinivasan joined SBI Funds Management as a Senior Fund Manager in May 2009. Currently, he is the Head of Equity and also directly manages a number of funds. He has an experience of over 25 years in equities. 

Before this he has worked with Future Capital Holding, Principal PNB, Oppenheimer & Co (later Blackstone), Indosuez WI Carr and Motilal Oswal, among others. Srinivasan is a post graduate in Commerce and has an MFM degree from the University of Mumbai.

2. Mr. Richard D’Souza

Richard currently manages thematic funds at SBI Mutual Fund house. He joined SBI in 2010 as Fund Manager for the Retail PMS division. Richard had joined SBI from ASK Investment Managers. At ASK, he was the portfolio manager for PMS schemes. 

Prior to joining ASK, Richard was a sell side analyst with various broking firms. They include Antique Shares, Sunidhi Consulting and Alchemy Shares for 17 years. He started his career in 1992 as a research analyst at Ajit Vajani Share Brokers. Richard is a Science graduate from Mumbai University.

3. Mr. Dinesh Balachandran

Dinesh Balchandran joined SBI Mutual Fund house in 2012 as a Senior Credit Analyst. He later on went on to become Head of Research. Currently, he is an equity fund manager. 

At the start of his career, he worked with Fidelity in Boston, USA in 2001.  where as an analyst he covered Structured Finance, and the local US fixed income market over 10 years. Dinesh holds a B.Tech degree from IIT, Mumbai. After that, he went on to get a M.S degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is also a Charter holder of the CFA Institute, USA.

4. Sohini Andani

Sohini joined SBI Mutual Fund as Head of Research in 2007. She was subsequently promoted as a portfolio manager in 2010. Before joining SBI MF, Sohini was a senior research analyst at ING Investment. Sohini has over 11 years of experience in research on the sell side. 

Her previous assignments were with leading broking outfits such as ASK Raymond James, LKP Shares and Securities, Advani Share Brokers and KR Choksey Shares and Securities. Sohini is a Commerce graduate from Mumbai University. She is a Chartered Accountant from ICAI.

5. Mr. Anup Upadhyay, CFA

Anup joined SBI Mutual Fund in 2007 after getting a PG Diploma in Management from IIM Lucknow. He was set on the learning path of the equity market, as an Equity Analyst for the IT Services industry. He got an opportunity to cover Telecom, Media and some Capital Goods stocks also later. 

Anup is now contributing as the Head of Research and as a Fund Manager. He manages Equity Opportunities Fund and SBI IT Fund. He worked as a programmer for Tata Consultancy Services for a year.  This is, after graduating from IIT Kharagpur in 2004. He is also a Charter holder of the CFA Institute, USA, like most analysts in the team.

6. Ms. Nidhi Chawla

Nidhi joined SBI Mutual Fund house in 2007 . She completed her Bachelor in Business Studies from CBS, Delhi University. She also holds a Masters’ Degree in Economics from University of Delhi. Nidhi is also a Charter holder of the CFA Institute, USA.
