Harley-Davidson has said that it will develop small-displacement motorcycles for emerging markets in Asia by partnering with a manufacturer in the region.
? Okay, but what does it mean?
The new bikes in the 250 cc to 500 cc range are planned to make the brand more accessible to customers, especially in India.
This comes in lieu of the ever expanding premium bike segment in India, where Harley will get a tough competition from home brand Royal Enfield, and KTM. The 250-500cc Indian market has seen the most growth in the previous years.
? Why should I care?
Everyone dreams of owning a Harley. And oftentimes, they tend to be overkill, what with their high powered engines and exuberant prices. Now with Harley moving into the 250-500cc segment, not only should the bikes be more affordable, but more suitable for an Indian day-to-day lifestyle.
Only time would tell if that comes to be.
