HDFC Asset Management Company (AMC) is the manager for the investment schemes of HDFC Mutual Fund. Started in the year 1999, the company was set up as a joint venture between Housing Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC) and Standard Life Investment Limited (SLI). However, in the past few years much has changed.

In the financial year 2018-19, the company carried out its first public offering and following that, became a publicly listed company in August 2018.They have over 70 thousand empanelled distributors which include independent financial advisors, national distributors and banks which serve customers and distribution partners in over 200 cities through our network of 221 branches and 1,194 employees.

HDFC Mutual Fund is the second biggest Asset Management Company in India in 2020. The company has a customer base of 9.4 million live accounts. The company manages assets nearly worth 3 lakh crore, as of 31 May 2020. After the public listing, 20% of the company is owned by the public today. 

Being one of the top players in Equity, HDFC AMC recorded a 16.2% market share in the actively-managed equity oriented schemes in FY 2018-19. Needless to say, millions of investors have invested in multiple investment options offered by the fund for the past two decades.

1. Mr. Prashant Jain

Prashant Jain works at HDFC Mutual Funds as an executive director and CIO (chief investment officer). Today, he is one of the most senior employees of the company where he manages the HDFC Equity Fund – Growth, with a focus on Indian equities. Before joining HDFC Mutual Funds, he worked at Zurich AMC, where he was also chief investment officer.

Education wise, he holds an MBA from the very prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM). Overall, he has over 28 years of experience in fund management and research in the Mutual Fund Industry under his belt. Currently, he is managing an AUM of ₹76,334 Cr for 14 schemes.

2. Mr. Chirag Setalvad

Chirag Setalvad is a senior fund manager at HDFC Mutual Fund, where he has been working from March 2007 till date. Based out of Mumbai, he  invests mainly in Indian equities. As the fund manager for HDFC Long Term Advantage fund, he maintains a balanced outlook on the market.

Before HDFC, he worked at New Vernon Advisory Services and started his career at ING Barings in India. Overall, he has over 22 years of experience out of which 18 years is in fund management and research while a little over 3 years in investment banking. Currently, he is managing an AUM of ₹49,872 Cr for 15 schemes.

3. Mr. Vinay R. Kulkarni

Vinay Kulkarni is a senior fund manager at HDFC AMC where he has been working from November 2006 till date. Before this, he has held various positions in Tata Asset Management Limited, Deutsche Asset Management (India) Pvt. Ltd., UTI Asset Management Company (Pvt.) Ltd., Patni Computer Systems Limited.

Education wise, he holds a B.Tech degree from IIT, Mumbai and a PGDM from IIM,Bangalore. Overall he has over 28 years of experience, out of which 26 years in Fund Management and Equity Research while 2 years of it, is in the IT industry. Currently, he is managing an AUM of ₹11,343 Cr for 10 schemes.

4. Mr. Krishan Kumar Daga

Krishna K. Daga is a senior Fund Manager at the HDFC AMC where he joined in September, 2015. Before that he has worked in Reliance AMC, as an equity fund manager and in the Deutsche Bank as the Vice President of Equity research.

Overall, he has over 29 years of experience out of which 12 years is in fund management and 12 years is in equity research in the Mutual Fund Industry. Currently, he is managing an AUM of ₹13,076 Cr for 9 schemes in HDFC Mutual Funds.

5. Mr. Shobhit Mehrotra

Shobhit Mehrotra is a senior member of HDFC mutual fund, where he has worked since February, 2004. He is currently a senior Fund Manager under the Fixed Income department and Head of Credit in HDFC Mutual Fund. Before this he has worked with Templeton Asset Management (India) Pvt Ltd.and ICRA Ltd.

 6. Mr. Gopal Agrawal

Gopal joined DSP Investment Managers in July 2018 as Head of Macro Strategy & Senior Fund Manager in Equity Investment Team and quit in January, 2020. Before that, he was also the Chief Investment Officer at Tata Mutual Fund and before that he spent a decade at Mirae Asset Mutual Fund as the overall CIO and strategist.
